Essential Functions

Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; assists with orientation of new employees; requires minimal supervision to safely perform essential functions; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving equipment or supplies that are necessary to perform essential functions; assembles necessary cleaning supplies and equipment and replaces in appropriate place; responsible for cleanliness and stock of cleaning cart, control issued keys and monitoring of issued beepers; sweeps, damp mops, wet washes, vacuums floors, stairways and halls; empties waste baskets and trash containers; replaces liners; checks and re-empties waste baskets periodically; cleans fixtures, doors, horizontal surfaces, furniture and cabinets of dust and soiling; washes sinks, hoppers, toilets, showers, and other plumbing fixtures; spot cleans, bonnets and extracts carpeted areas, keeping them stain/soil free; replenishes disposables such as towels, soap, toilet paper, and seat covers; cleans surgical, trauma, and isolation precaution areas using proper procedures to prevent exposures; makes vacant beds, cleans and prepares patient room for future patient(s); changes, cleans, reinstalls cubicle curtains, shower curtains, and blinds; wears protective clothing in surgery, isolation, or other areas while performing job duties; locks & secures doors after completion of work as needed; handles biohazard and cytotoxic wastes during the collection, transportation, and final disposal process; notifies supervisors of any needed repairs or hazards; removes soiled linen bags from hall hampers and places the 40-50 lbs. bags into soled linen carts; checks department linen supplies and lists linen usages on a daily basis; delivers linen according to pre-established par levels and schedules; prepares and distributes supply packs to include folding and packing linen; maintains linen room in a neat and orderly condition; cleans delivery equipment and assists with other cleaning duties in laundry department; moves wheeled linen carts that weigh 300-700 lbs; transports furniture and furnishings to different locations as needed by pushing, pulling and/or lifting; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, healthcare team and staff in person and via telephone; communicates via telephone, pages, public address system, and in person; maintains accurate and complete records by completing work area assignments log; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit; completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; participates on committees as assigned; participates in performance movement activities through quality measurement or participation of PDSA process as assigned; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
